Dr. Alexander Nguyen is a board-certified gastroenterologist who specializes in all aspects of gastrointestinal and liver disorders. He has clinical expertise in interventional and therapeutic endoscopy, including treatment of pancreaticobiliary diseases like pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, and the evaluation of the small and large intestines. His advance training encompasses endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) including cholangioscopy (Spyglass); endoscopic ultrasound (EUS); endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) of polyps and masses; and evaluation and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers including enteral stenting.
education and training
Dr. Alexander Nguyen received his undergraduate education from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from UC Irvine School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA where he performed research at Stanford University on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). He then completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship in Chicago at Cook County Health and Hospital Systems before returning to his native roots in southern California. At Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, he completed his advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship where he also served as a clinical instructor of medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC before joining South Bay Gastroenterology Medical Group.
